The Raval is one of the most famous and peculiar areas of Barcelona, located in the old town, bordering the Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya and Paralel. Founded in the middle ages when the city walls expanded and later called the Chinese neighborhood by natives, nowadays it is home to the ´weird and wonderful¨ of Barcelona. Famous for its fashionable bars, tapas restaurants, the best vintage shops, this is a multicultural area also frequented by local and international artists.

Major landmarks of the area include the Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp, the lively Rambla del Raval with various bars and the Raval Cat sculpture by Fernando Botero and the Modern Art Museum of Catalunya (MACBA). Portal de Santa Madrona, located in the southern part is a medieval wall and part of the Maritim Museum. Also part of the Raval and Ramblas is Barcelona´s most famous market La Boqueria. Here visitors can find typical Catalan products and delicacies from over the world.
